While most of us missed out on vacations this spring and early summer due to the events surrounding Covid-19 and quarantine, there's still a chance to ensure you get in a vacation this summer! While planning for one may seem like a daunting task with such little time left, there are actually numerous places you can go that will save you money and time if you do it wisely! So, ready to stop procrastinating? Here are five destinations worthy of consideration:

Burlington, Vermont

Burlington, Vermont is just a short flight from many East Coast and Mid-Atlantic cities. It is situated in the heart of Vermont, featuring all the wonders that Vermont has to offer - easy access to the Green Mountains, day-trip options to quaint towns like Waterbury, and hours of in-city distractions in the form of funky shops and a wide pathway that surrounds Lake Champlain. If you and your travel buddy like to hit amazing breweries along the way on your trip, definitely be sure to check out the Burlington Beer Co, who offer wonderfully crafted seasonal pale ales! Looking for some great local eats? The Prohibition Pig features amazing smoked meats that will make for the perfect meal that will surely be unforgettable. Afterwards, hop on a bike for a lazy lakeside pedal or (for the truly ambitious) conquer the state's famed single track, which weaves throughout national and state parkland just outside the city! There is truly something special for everyone here!

Mexico City, Mexico

It might seem a little silly to travel south during the hottest time of the year, but Mexico City makes up for it with perfect temperatures around 74 degrees Fahrenheit all summer, leaving the blazing temps to the rest of the country. The city has recently undergone a culinary revolution thanks to restaurants like Mexican/Basque newcomer Biko and Enrique Olvera's modern gastronomy institution Pujol, which are certainly two places to go if you are looking for extraordinary experiences like you have never seen before! Want to know the best part? Because of Mexico City’s sprawling size (it clocks in at 573 square miles, which are broken down into 16 neighborhoods each with its own unique personality), finding accommodations that match your budget should be so easy that you might even consider changing scenery and booking another hotel mid-stay!

Nelson, British Columbia

Nelson feels worlds away from society and can make for the prefect getaway! What was once a sleepy mountain town now has turned into a tiny hub for all things active! Nearby, Whistler Blackcomb Resort provides for the best outdoor summer adventures, including more than 30 miles of lift-access hiking, one of the world’s best mountain bike terrain parks, and rides on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, which bridges Whistler and Blackcomb mountains with glass-bottom cars that let you peer down at the landscape 1,430 feet below. In Nelson proper, you can also easily access miles of hiking, biking, and climbing routes nestled within the surrounding Selkirk Mountains, as well as museums and shops and a surprisingly diverse variety of cuisines.

Curacao

Similar to that of its neighboring islands Aruba and Bonaire, this former Dutch colony sits below the region’s hurricane belt. Curaçao possesses its own kind of allure and beauty, without the price tag that comes with Aruba or Bonaire! Because accommodations here are predominantly of the Airbnb and bed-and-breakfast variety, it’s easy to score a deal no matter where you want to stay. Traveling to Willemstad, you will find a city full of  restaurants, shops, and colorful Dutch Colonial architecture. With water sports abound, you can do anything from diving and snorkeling to windsurfing and sailing, but with summer temps hovering in the mid-80s, lounging on one of the many public beaches is also a perfectly viable alternative!

Naxos, Greece

If you’re thinking about visiting the Greek Islands at the end of this summer, the archipelago’s most famous, like Santorini and Mykonos, are likely to be jam-packed with people and most rooms sold out. Naxos, however, isn’t as well-known! This means that you’ll have a decent chance at finding absolute luxury without the price tag. You'll also discover that in addition to the tranquility, the island offers everything you’re looking for and then some. Take time to explore its white sandy beaches, the endless mountains for hiking, the charming traditional villages, and its fascinating ancient ruins. It will truly make for an unforgettable time!
