What Is A Fruitarian

The Fruitarian Diet: Does A Fruit Only Diet Work?

The fruitarian diet is a subset of a vegan diet. A fruitarian is a person who eats a 50-75% fruit-based diet. This is one of the most restrictive diets out there. Those who are really dedicated to this diet consume around 90% of their meals around fruit. This diet has a high possibility of leading to malnourished. If you wish to transition your diet into a fruitarian one, you must be cautious. With every meal you should include vegetables, seeds, and nuts. These will give you the necessary fats and proteins you require to stay healthy. Eating fruit can spike your blood sugar, so adding those veggies, nuts, or seeds can help with this issue. This diet has increased in popularity due to the vegan/raw food campaigns. People are changing their diets for various reasons relating to well-being of animals and the environment. Some fruitarians have been prompted to start their diet because they do not wish to harm any living organism.

Benefits & Risks

The fruitarian diet has many benefits as well as some risks. Fruit contains a lot of fiber, which can help with regular bowel movements and lower cholesterol. Some specific fruits that are the highest in fiber are apples, pears, blackberries, and raspberries. Fruits such as oranges, red peppers, and strawberries contain high amounts of vitamin C, which can boost immune health during the cold months. They also have a positive effect on your teeth and gums. Potassium is another benefit to consuming fruit. Bananas, cantaloupe, and mangoes are the best for this. If you are pregnant or seeking to become pregnant, oranges help with fetal development. Fruit is rich in antioxidants, which can help you maintain clear skin and shield you against illness. Although this diet may seem to have many benefits, there are some risks. In order to maintain good overall health, you need nutrients like fat, protein, calcium, Vitamin B, and omega 3 fatty acids. Fruit cannot contribute any of this to your body. Malnourishment can occur during the fruitarian diet. Your body can also go into starvation mode. Some other things you can experience during this diet is fatigue, anemia, and a reduced immune system. Being that fruit is so high in sugar, you can also increase your chances of becoming a diabetic.

Fruitarian Meal

An example of a fruitarian meal is simple. For breakfast, you can create a watermelon smoothie. This is made with a medium-sized watermelon and just lemon or lime juice. If you do not want the smoothie to be lumpy, you can use a strainer to extract the seeds. For lunch, you can indulge in 4 juicy mangoes. As far as dinner goes, create a delicious banana smoothie with 8 bananas, frozen blueberries, and sprinkle in some hemp seed. While these meals seem very light, they are actually super filling. You can always allow yourself to have some raw sushi rolls or rice if your stomach is not satisfied.

Weight Loss

Weight loss happens when you consume fewer calories than you actually burn throughout the day. Fruitarian is a lifestyle choice and usually not about losing weight. With the fruitarian diet your calorie intake depends on which fruits you choose to eat and the quantity. Avocados and nuts are particularly high in calories. Not all fruitarians lose weight. However it is possible for you to lose a considerable amount of weight if you suddenly switch to only consuming fruits.
